ZScan at the Control: Production-related 3D inspection in seconds

Written by senswork | March 03, 2022

At the Control trade fair in Stuttgart, senswork will be presenting the ZScan 3D measuring system for the first time at the Fraunhofer Special Show "Non-Contact Measuring Technology" in Hall 6, Stand 6401. The innovative technology enables fully automated in-line 3D measurement of large parts in typically less than 10 seconds. The time and cost savings compared to conventional measurement methods are enormous, while maintaining high measurement quality.

"We experience ZScan as a game changer in production-related metrology," says Rainer Obergrußberger, Managing Director of senswork GmbH. Until now, large and complex components have usually been checked for dimensional accuracy by experienced metrology technicians in a separate measuring room using various methods. The usually long measurement time and the high time offset from the part removal to the determination of the measurement data are a major disadvantage, for which ZScan is a solution. Several triangulation sensors with free spatial arrangement detect objects almost shadow-free and measure even complex parts, for example aluminium die-cast parts in the automotive industry, completely within a few seconds.

Automatic CAD data comparison

The up to 20 million measuring points per scan are automatically compared with the available CAD data. Due to the free geometric arrangement of the 3D scanners, areas that are difficult to access optically, such as undercuts or shadow areas, can also be captured and surfaces and volumes can be checked automatically. Component deviations can be displayed as dimensional deviations at defined measuring points and as false colour images.

E-mobility: Determine correction parameters when measuring busbars

ZScan not only allows the fully automatic and uncomplicated measurement of components, but also the determination of correction values for the upstream production line. For example, ZScan makes it possible to measure busbars for battery cells three-dimensionally and to automatically determine correction values for the feed and bending angle of the individual segments from the scan data. This measurement during production ensures that the product quality remains continuously high. Mechanical gauges can be dispensed with entirely.
